Summer is on the way, and like many people, you are might be considering where to spend your vacation time. Of course, you could follow the tourists and journey abroad. And why not? Sun, sea, and sightseeing await. However…
Why not forsake the idea of going abroad and stick to the UK instead? Sure, there are loads of countries to visit in the world, but there are some very good reasons as to why you might skip the airport queues and stick with good ‘ol Blighty.
Why?
#1: The UK is cheaper than a holiday abroad
Well, generally speaking, it is, but think about it. You won’t have to pay for a flight, with all of the luggage fees and other expenses that come with it. You won’t have to put up with exchange rates that are higher than your own. And you won’t have to pay for extra travel, such as cab fares, when you are trying to get around an unfamiliar country. You can still splash out on a luxury hotel if that’s what you’re after, but you don’t have to travel to another country to get the experience.
#2: The UK is perfect for a beach holiday
Seriously, we have some of the best beaches in the world. And while we might not be guaranteed the same climate as some of the more tropical countries around the globe, we can still put our cardies on if it gets a little nippy and enjoy the hoped-for UK sunshine. Some of the best beaches can be found in Cornwall and the South West, with golden sands, blue seas, and opportunities aplenty for fun and relaxation, but check out this 2019 beach guide for more.
#3: The UK has some amazing theme parks
You don’t need to go to Disneyland or Universal Studios to sate your theme park obsession. The UK has plenty of its own, so put away your passport and Mickey Mouse ears. There’s Alton Towers in Staffordshire, of course, one of the UK’s and the world’s best theme parks. With some of the biggest rides around, some integrating virtual reality, you are guaranteed a good time (once you get through the queues). There’s also the fantastical world of Camelot in Chorley, the incredible Legoland in Berkshire, the wonderful Lightwater Valley in beautiful Yorkshire England, and with some of the highest and fastest rides of all, Thorpe Park in Surrey. In short, you don’t need Walt Disney to have a good time!
#4: The UK is one of the most beautiful countries in the world
If you’re looking for some scenic beauty, you don’t need to visit a rainforest in Peru or any of the coastlines in Hawaii! Wait, scrub that, you really should visit those places, but until you do, know that the UK has plenty of beautiful places for you to gawp at and explore. Often described as the Mull Caribbean, you could trek along the white sands of Langamull Beach while gazing out at the magnificent views on the Isle of Mull, in Scotland. There’s the Melte Valley in Wales’ Brecon Beacons, home to some incredible waterfalls. There’s Cornwall, with its white sanded beaches and quaint fishing villages. And let’s not forget the Lake District in Cumbria, with world-famous mountains to explore, lakes to swim and kayak upon, and a thousand walks in which to find your zen. For more, check out this list of beautiful places in England, and then add them to your travel bucket list.
So, why go abroad? We think the UK has much to offer, so if you’re looking to save money, and you still haven’t travelled to some of our best and brightest places, consider leaving your passport at home and visiting somewhere (relatively) local!
