Friday the 27th of April 2018 marks my 22nd birthday and in my precious 22-years on this planet, I’ve learnt many life lessons and seen a lot more than most.
I can tell you this already, I shall spend the next year blasting out Taylor Swift’s hit ‘anthem’, 22.
Anyways, my birthday in recent years has always been a bit of a pain as it usually falls just before exam season, sigh! My 21st was spent at Thorpe Park in the only day I took off from revising and dissertation writing during the final year of my degree. However, this year, the world is my oyster and I am yet to make any plans – oops.
But before the partying begins, I thought I’d share with you wisdom-filled 22 lessons that I have learnt in my 22 years.
Let’s do this:
22 Life Lessons in 22 Years on Earth…
1: Have confidence in yourself.
2: Make your own choices. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t do or achieve something.
[bctt tweet=”Make your own choices. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t do or achieve something.” username=”heythereChannon”]3: You’ll never please everyone.
4: Mum does actually know best – pretty much always.
5: It is never too late to chase your dreams and no dream is an ‘unreachable’ one.
[bctt tweet=” It is never too late to chase your dreams and no dream is an ‘unreachable’ one.” username=”heythereChannon”]6: Step out of your comfort zone – you’ll be a better person for it.
7: Travel, explore and see the world with your own eyes when given the chance to do so.
8: Take every opportunity.
9: Everyone has a story – take the time to listen to other people’s.
[bctt tweet=”Everyone has a story – take the time to listen to other people’s.” username=”heythereChannon”]10: Love those who love you back.
11: It’s perfectly fine to be selfish – sometimes you’ve got no choice but to be.
12: Make a fool of yourself every-once-in-a-while. Learn to laugh at yourself as being too serious can be tough.
13: Treat yourself – you earnt it, you spend it, do it un-shamingly too. Whether that’s a night out, a shirt you’ve wanted for a while or some stand out frames from https://www.eyeglasses.com/.
[bctt tweet=”Treat yourself – you earnt it, you spend it, do it un-shamingly too.” username=”heythereChannon”]14: Eat the cake, you won’t regret it.

Eat the Cake: Afternoon Tea at Bone China, Truro – Cornwall.
15: Change = growth – embrace it.
16: Everything happens for a reason. Be thankful even when it’s difficult.
[bctt tweet=” Everything happens for a reason. Be thankful even when it’s difficult.” username=”heythereChannon”]17: It’s okay to disagree.
18: The world is kind-of sad, don’t let it get you down.
19: It is 100% normal to literally love Harry Styles at 22, don’t worry about it.
[bctt tweet=”It is 100% normal to literally love Harry Styles at 22, don’t worry about it.” username=”heythereChannon”]20: If you find something that doesn’t belong to you then return it, hand it in, don’t keep it as the next time you lose something, karma will be there to save you from losing your possessions. Trust me.
21: Remember the bigger picture – are the choices you are currently making going to have a positive impact on your future?
[bctt tweet=”Remember the bigger picture – are the choices you are currently making going to have a positive impact on your future?” username=”heythereChannon”]22: Always choose love and respect for others. Don’t forget to be kind, be brave and be you.

“Love those who love you back.” <- so much yes to this! Happy birthday.
Love this. I agree with the harry styles one ?
My blog is at http://www.positivegrowth.co.za
Love it :) Thanx for sharing!
Such a great article.
This is cool! I will be 40 this year and I did a blog post about 40 things I learned before 40
Happy birthday!!! I hope 22 is a great year for you! This post made me smile.
You have learned quite a bit in your 22 years – wishing you the best for the next 22!
Hi there! “Step out of your comfort zone” and “Everyone has a story” are two that I can relate to. Love your list! It’s made me think about what I’ve learned over the years.
Happy birthday! These are lessons I think you’ll learn time and time again :) x
I really liked this post! I’ve been working on my own – I’ll be turning 23 next month. I agree with many of your points!
Happy Early Birthday Lexi! I cannot wait to read yours!
Very wise words at 22! Kinda reminds me of myself at that age. Travel often and live life to the fullest! Enjoy everyday!
Thanks Chelsea! I love to travel and I cannot wait to do more of it this year!
What a lovely list! Great that you have already learned all of this at such a young age.
I think it’s partly because I’ve been in so many situations whereby I’ve had no choice to learn. <3
I always love this type of post!! Loved hearing all your lessons, & happy belated birthday!
Me too Kristen! It’s interesting to get other people’s perspectives, ideas and suggestions! Thank you <3
For being only 22, you are plenty wise and my favorite of your lessons is knowing that you can’t please everyone! Great post!
That appears to be one of the favourite lessons amongst most in the comments today Vanessa. I think it’s because it is super important if you focus on everyone else all the time then you’ll only let yourself down!
Love this! I’m also 22 and I agree with everything you’ve said. Especially #21; it can be hard to think long term but it’s so important that your decisions are working towards your long term goals and not against them!
I agree long-term goal planning is a tricky one especially when being so young and unsure of my exact plans. However, I feel that even if the impact is minimal it’s better than nothing. Also, it doesn’t hurt to focus on the future a little!
Hope you have a wonderful birthday, Channon – my son is 22 on the 26th, so I will be showing him your post. He is studying for his fourth year finals so not sure we will be celebrating this week!! Happy Birthday to You xxx
Wait, this is amazing – he is literally just 1 day older than me!! I’ve only ever met one person like that in my life and she was my best friend, hehe. That was similar to me on my 21st, I spent most of the day revising over celebrating. But it is all worth it in the end – just celebrate later. Finals are more important. Wish him a happy birthday and the best of luck on his exams from me Claire! xo
Such post post idea!!!!
Thanks. :)
I LOVE this list…and I wish I was 22 again, it was my favorite! I make a fool of myself on the daily and it is way more fun ;) Thanks for sharing, so many people never learn to do these things and they are so important!
Aw Erica – at heart, I’m sure you are 22 ;) Hehe! Carefree and all. I feel like many people live entire lifetimes before they find the value in some of these things. We should embrace being a bit silly, having fun and ignoring the judgement of others!
Such lovely life lessons! That’s wonderful. Wishing you a happy birthday and another year full of goodness. Can’t wait to see what goodness you’ll add to the list next year ♡.
Thank’s Sara. The next year is already setting itself up to be an interesting one – I am off to do my teacher training so who knows what new adventures and challenges it will bring. <3
So much wisdom in such a young age! Happy belated lovely
Thank you Em! <3
Happy 22nd!
P.S. #3 is clutch.
Thank you!!!
This is a great idea! I’m gonna do mine for my 22 years too ☺️ i’ve always done 21 things to do while im 21 and so on… but I love the reflection idea!
http://www.chelsya.com
Please do, I’ll try to keep an eye out for it. I enjoy reflecting and then looking back on them in years to come. <3 I've changed so much between 21 and 22!
It is never too late to chase your dreams and no dream is an ‘unreachable’ one. Indeed. I am 29, and I’m still holding onto this religiously. :)
I completely agree – don’t ever give up on that hope as one day, you never know, it might just come true! Besides, age is just a number too!
Lovely post! I am your age and can relate to most of them, even number 19 sometimes ;) I hope you have an awesome day next Friday.

No. 19 is arguably the most important and accurate representation of me ;) hehe! Thank you so much. Do you find yourself singing T. Swift all the time? I’ve already started and I’m not yet 22!
I love this list. I think you’re so spot on here especially about the cake!!
Thanks Rachael! Gotta eat all the cake, who cares what other people think. I can’t help it, I LOVE cake! Hehe!
I love these birthday reflection posts! Happy 22nd birthday!!!!
I totally agree with these lessons! Especially #3, can’t please everyone so you might as well only focus on yourself – easiest to please XD. But seriously, don’t go out of your way to please someone else, not worth it. Stepping out of your comfort zone brings great rewards sometimes! This goes with #8! And YES! Totally okay to disagree.

Thank you so much Nancy! I agree, it just isn’t worth it. You’ll never make everyone happy so don’t waste your energy trying! <3
