New Year’s Resolutions, most people make them not many achieve/complete them. 43% of the British population fail within the first month to meet their new goals according to The Guardian. The main problem being that the resolutions we choose to set ourselves simply are not sustainable.
I’ve put together a list of FIVE sustainable realistic New Year’s Resolutions that I’ll be working on throughout 2018. They are very much open to interpretation can easily be moulded to fit your own personal needs or goals for self-fulfilment, self-improvement and a happier, brighter and more focused year ahead.
This is a New Years Resolution that we should all have: to reduce, reuse, recycle. I think we’ve all seen the Blue Planet II episode now whereby the state of our oceans and the harm plastic is having on them was revealed. It’s important that we start thinking about our global footprint before it is too late. The lifestyle changes you make can be as small as purchasing metal, reusable straws over plastic ones or reducing the number of plastic bottles you buy (I am guilty of this one)! Similarly, starting to recycle even if only a minimal amount can make a world of difference.
Stop thinking about what you want to do and instead, just get out there and do it. There isn’t one person out there who hasn’t missed out on something because they couldn’t be bothered or they felt it was unachievable. Well, guess what, there isn’t anyone stopping you from achieving your dreams apart from yourself. I agree that some dreams take longer than others but that does not mean you’ll never achieve them. You’ve first got to start and second, have the will to pursue that which you desire. Don’t worry nor wonder, just do it.
Forgiving can be incredibly difficult but once you do, life can be made easier and bring about far greater fulfilment. Learn to accept that not everything is your fault nor is it worth the hassle of worrying about continuously. You have to make the active decision to forgive and let go of any resentment. A good place to start is by thinking about what makes individuals act in certain ways and make the choices that they do. It is at that point that you’ll be able to deal with your own emotions and grievances.
Being organised is the key to success. The easiest way to stay organised is to plan ahead. I’d recommend picking yourself up a planner or personal organiser and utilising functional stickers, such as Mellie, to map out your week, month and year. Stickers are a fun way to track goals, habits, events and appointments. There is no better time than when working out your upcoming New Year’s Resolutions than to start planning your future and organising the world around you.
In the year to come, work on growing as a person. As far as New Year’s Resolutions go, maybe this seems obvious. But you should use the next 365 days to become a better, stronger and more positive version of you. Have faith, accept responsibility, work on any criticisms and push the limits each-and-every day. It is never too late to alter or change who you are, for as long as those alterations are choices that you wish to make.
