10 things I LOVE about Christmas! – #blogmas

10ThingsILoveAboutChristmas // heythereChannon1. Family

Family is the most important part of Christmas, and I have realised this more so since moving away to London. I miss my entire family when I am away. Just because they are able to offer great company, support and occasionally it is just nice to have a good old chin-wag with someone close to you. Alongside family is gift-giving. I love seeing their faces when they open gifts – just a nice feeling, ya’know?

2. Food

Food, I love food. I love cold turkey in fresh warm bread rolls, pigs in blankets, battered cauliflower, Nanny Wendy’s homemade Yorkshire puddings, leeks in cheese sauce, sausage stuffing, normal stuffing, goose-fat roasted potatoes, honey coated parsnips, party finger food… Are you seeing a pattern here? In other words, I like all the terribly unhealthy foods at Christmas!

3. Baking

Baking, such as: cakes, biscuits, puddings, cupcakes, flapjack… My Nanny Wendy is the best baker in the world, her butterfly buns are to die for and her Nutella cake is incredible. At Christmas time all the nice sweet treats are made, including homemade christmas pudding with cornish vanilla ice-cream, absolutely delicious.

4. Markets

Christmas markets, stalls and festive shops are not only incredibly instagramable, but also the perfect way to get into the Christmassy spirit. I recently visited Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and I was actually magical!

5. Ice-Skating

Ice-Skating is the absolute best thing about winter. I love skating and have done for years now ever since I persuaded my Nanny Sue to take me every single weekend one season! I just find it super relaxing. Although, I will say, the first time I skate in a while always results in ‘jelly legs’. And, before you think I’m an ice-skating genius, I am definitely not. I can skate forwards and I know how to stop… that is all, despite having many lessons!

6. Candles

Now, candles are one of my favourite things to have. I have soooo many now of all different scents from pineapple to gingerbread to strawberry skittles to cucumber to floral to red berries – you name it, I probably have it. However, I do have a slight issue with burning them because I worry that it will run out and I won’t be able to replace it, sigh. Yankee candles are something that I dream about owning and I honestly have no idea why! This year I managed to get my hands on a festive sample set from Yankee and I cannot wait to burn them once I am back home. ‘Christmas’ scented candles are the way forward, all year round, every single day, all day.

7. Decorations

Christmas decorations and in particular, decorating the tree is something that I look forward to all year! Although, my Mum is so fussy about our tree at home that we often don’t get to decorate, or even if we do, she’ll spend days altering it after. My Sister this year has decided to have a ‘Frozen’ themed tree and I cannot wait to see it… Eek, Elsa, Anna and Olaf tinsel is bound to make me incredibly happy. However, aside from the decorations I also love fairy lights!

8. Lights

Lights, Christmas outdoor lights, tree lights, Christmas lights in towns, (just lights in general) are incredibly pretty and wintery. Fairy lights make me smile and if I had my way we would have Christmas lights up inside our house all year round. When I moved to university, I left my white dangling fairy lights behind in my old room and I have begged for them back off my Sister ever since. They are just something that I find incredibly cosy, especially during the winter.

9. Pantomime

In my family it is a tradition to go to the local pantomime each year. It is also compulsory to sit near the front in order to get my Grandad pied… hehe *evil laugh*. The pantomime is just so much festive fun as well as little bit of harmless political banter. What more could you want? Oh, and they always sing One Direction at the end, so it is an all round win, win!

10. Shortbread

So, I admit, I have already mentioned baking BUT shortbread needs it own marker of importance. In particular, the shortbread from M&S. Every single year, I request an entire tin to myself (judge all you like, I couldn’t care less) as it is just the nicest treat for me at Christmas. I love it, a lot!
